Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) on Thursday claimed to have issued 143 traffic violation tickets to VIPs, including judges, army officers, parliamentarians, advisors to prime minister and bureaucrats, during 2016. According to a senior official of the ITP, the traffic police had also issued 642,891 violation tickets to motorists over various traffic violations and collected a fine of Rs 206.4 million during the year 2016.

He said that out of 143 violation tickets issued to VIPs and their families, 73 tickets were issued to the army officers, 25 to the Members of National Assembly (MNAs), 10 to senior government officers, eight to judges, seven to the Members of Provincial Assemblies (MPAs), four to senior officers of Air Force, four to federal secretaries, four to families of VIPs, three to drivers of VIPs, two to the legal advisors of prime minister and one each to a senior police officer, deputy secretary and joint secretary.

He said that ITP police had issued 642,891 violation tickets to the motorists over various traffic violations. Out of the total 642,891 violation tickets issued to motorists, 42,006 were issued for not using seatbelt, 28,091 for using mobile phone during driving, 75,276 for driving motorbike without wearing helmet, 21,978 for lane violation, 27,162 for traffic signals violation, 5,871 to under-aged drivers and 106,025 tickets were issued for other violations.

As many as 27,669 people were issued violation tickets for careless driving, 7,379 tickets for using wrong side of road, 9,047 for loading up at wrong stop, 9,167 for driving without lights, 10,732 for wrong use of one-way, 20,512 for driving without driving license, 21,283 for not giving space to other vehicles, 21,254 for lane violations, 2,969 for misbehaving with passengers, 42,610 for parking in the no parking zone, 30,016 for creating problems in the smooth flow of traffic, 41,056 for overloading, 45 for over-speeding, 14,545 parking at the bus staff, 2,547 for violating zebra crossing, 4,666 for using pressure horn, 7,469 for dangerous driving, 30,653 for not completing route, 7,136 for driving public service vehicle without permits, 1,278 for smoke emissions, 14,289 to motorists for using tainted glasses, 17,911 for fancy number plates and 12,945 for driving at high beam during night. It merits mentioning here that traffic police also provided help and support to 8,556 passengers and mechanical support to 1,890 drivers.
